“Touristification and hospitality dynamics: the case of Lisboa (2019)” by Filipa Fernandes | Article
Abstract: “This work aims to show how tourism contributes to the processes of transformation and co‑‑production of places. Knowing that the tourism industry stimulates changes in city spaces, there are contributions to the formation of new paradigms concerning hospitality, highlighting the role of local communities. Based on an ongoing research, and using ethnography, the work will be illustrated by a case study about the city of Lisbon. Some data on the processes of touristification in the city will be presented, showing the emergence of several transformations. The changes and emergence of new accommodations will be analyzed, highlighting the role of different social actors and the dynamics surrounding this process.”
