“São Paulo, fora de alcance (2018)” [São Paulo, out of reach] by Mauro Restiffe | Book
Abstract: “The publication is part of the São Paulo, fora de alcance [São Paulo, out of reach] project, an exhibition on display at IMS Rio in 2014 and at IMS Paulista in 2018. The book brings together 50 images of the city of São Paulo, taken during walks through central and peripheral neighborhoods, such as Brás, República, Pinheiros, Vila Congonhas, and Itaquera.
Restiffe’s photographs offer a portrait of everyday life and the changes faced by the metropolis. The project is the result of a partnership between ZUM Magazine and the photographer. In 2012, at the invitation of the publication, he photographed the Luz neighborhood, home to the famous Cracolândia, which was undergoing controversial municipal and state intervention. The following year, he was invited to extend his work and photograph the city’s transformation in the run-up to the World Cup.
These trips took place almost daily for three months and resulted in hundreds of photographs, taken with a Leica camera and high-sensitivity black-and-white film, which are part of the artist’s poetics. Restiffe is known for his photographic series that address urban issues of historical, political, and architectural relevance.”
The book is available in libraries, such as Loja do IMS (Instituto Moreira Salles) and Amazon Brasil.
