Abstract: “The subject of hybrid and contradictory discourses, markets are part of the enthusiasm generated by the possibilities of imagining everyday life in urban public spaces at the intersection of ideas of encounter and convivial sociability. In this context, markets have been discussed as complex and multifaceted elements that feed feelings and senses of belonging and community that are essential to the daily experience of ‘doing the common’ (STAVRIDES, 2016). Using information gathered during fieldwork carried out in a Portuguese public market, Praça de Braga, we show the role of informal communicative practices in this process.”
