Introduction: This book deals with a variety of topics that Sociology has often dealt with unsystematically and, in some cases, even ignored. There are several reasons for sociology’s oscillating interest in some of the topics covered here. Some derive directly from its epistemic matrix, others from the political nature of (and omissions from) science and sociology. Without dwelling on this aspect, it is important to point out that the texts that are now gathered, all of which have been published previously, have in common an analytical and interpretative approach to various public expressions of sensitive life.
