Summary: “Escuelas de Rock y Música Popular is a program of the Chilean Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. Until 2016, it was housed in the Community and Territory section of the Department of Citizenship and Culture. From 2016 onwards, it is part of the Executive Secretariat of the Fondo de Fomento para la Música Nacional.

Escuelas de Rock was founded in 1994, with the institutional support of the ATR (Rock Workers Association), the General Secretary of Government and the Ministry of Education through its Culture Division. In 2004, it became part of the National Council of Culture and the Arts, and in 2007 the team moved to the Institutional building of the Council of Culture in Plaza Sotomayor, Valparaíso.

With 30 years of experience, Escuelas de Rock y Música Popular is able to contribute in different areas, including the formation of publics and audiences, the decentralization of art and culture, the dissemination of Chilean popular music and the strengthening of Chilean musical heritage.”
