“Crônicas urbanas, espaços de solidão e afetos desestabilizados no cinema latino-americano (2020)” [Urban chronicles, spaces of solitude and destabilized affections in Latin American cinema] by Wendell Costa | Article

Abstract: “The objective of this work is to discuss the urban chronicles constructed in Latin American films. We will develop film analysis of the Medianeras and O Homem das Multidões that contextualize everyday social relations in spaces of solitude, representing the destabilized affections in the cities of Buenos Aires and Belo Horizonte. We define as a starting point the conceptual elaboration around destabilized affects, which have revealing potential of postmodern society, contrasting the existence of destabilized affects with the themes of space and time that create urban living: the “common” spaces and the intuition of time and the poetics of space. We problematize the social discourse contained in the films from the analysis of symbols and the social imaginary built on the contemporary city that is present through urban chronicles. As results, we circumscribe the theme of urban living within the scope of the virtualitiesof everyday life and spaces of solitude in the metropolis, respectively, in the films Medianeras and O Homem das Multidões.”
