Abstract: “Our initial motivation was simple: to take our poems to the streets. It was along the way that we identified (or produced) other reasons. Poetry on walls speaks of the desire for new futures, thinks of new uses for shared territories, with more generous sociabilities and less focused on the logic of consumption that dominates our daily lives.

Urban art feeds back into exchanges with the city. When an unexpected poem captures our attention, every corner represents a chance to discover new meanings, to formulate new questions. We walk down the street no longer counting the minutes that slip away from our wrists, but looking for the poetry that hides in shared spaces. We don’t just walk around looking for the poetry that exists, we begin to perceive the poetry that could exist, and where a new poem would fit.

Transverso’s proposal is to develop a language of urban art in which discourse is as relevant as form, and what we have discovered along the way is that language only develops through dialogue.

The Transverso collective is formed by Cauê Maia, Patrícia Bagniewski, Patricia Del Rey, and Rebeca Damian. All reproduction of our work is authorized and encouraged, provided it is not for sale or commercial purposes.”
