Synopsis: “Botinada: The Rise of Punk Rock in Brazil

is a documentary that tells the story of the beginning of the punk movement in Brazil (1976–1984) and the whereabouts of its protagonists. The documentary was produced by Gastão Moreira. It took four years of research, 77 people interviewed, thousands of hours in the editing room, 200 hours of video, and many rare and unpublished images compiled for the first time.

The documentary was based on the documentaries Punks, Garoto do Subúrbio, and Rota ABC, and features rare images, such as the band Cólera playing live in 1980 on TV Tupi (which never aired before the doc’s release) and Inocentes playing at Gallery in 1982, as well as interviews with punks from all over Brazil, journalists, filmmakers, bands, and supporters of the punk movement.
