Bar das luzes: corpos em re-existências, uma etnografia [The Lights bar: bodies in re-existence, an ethnography] | Master’s Thesis

Abstract: “This work consists of an analysis of “The Lights” in the city of Fortaleza-Ceará, aiming at
understanding sexualities and bodies entitled by heteronormativity as abject and divergent,
black bodies, queers, LGBTQI+, peripherals. It is reflected from an anthropological point of
view on being in the city in order to place the body itself in it, respecting the corporealities that
inhabit it, with the tact to perceive that each context of the field has its own meanings and
agencies. It is an ethnography that thinks about people, relationships and productions that are
formed from a physical and virtual space, putting in evidence the “urban art” and its/its artistic.
It was noticed that the public of the researched bar is mostly part of a black and LGBTQI+
social body, still diverse, and that the space has a constant dialogue with art in general. With
this work, the discussions on the urban theme are broadened with the vision of an anthropology
made in the city researched, contributing to a strengthening of the promotion of diversity,
dialoguing with human rights in its most basic points, such as the right to life and freedom.”
