“Antropología de lo urbano: Raíces y proyecciones de la ciudad como objeto de estudio (2023)” [Anthropology of the Urban: Roots and Projections of the City as an Object of Study] by Ariel Gravano

Abstract: “This book approaches a broad and deep understanding of the urban from an anthropological perspective, prioritizing the voice of the actors who daily build and use cities, suffer in them, imagine them and fight for them. The chapters deploy a theoretical production of great utility for urban planners, managers and civil servants, aimed at improving living conditions in contemporary urban realities. The distinctive contribution lies in its historical-structural approach, which consists in situating the urban in its emergence as a way of constructing life, from ancient civilizations to urban actualities, in which the structure of economic, demographic and social processes is articulated with the ways in which populations imagine and represent their daily coexistence; cities that never cease to transform themselves and transform that coexistence with challenges and problems as permanent as they are unprecedented.”
