A MPB faz sua cena: música, boémia e política em Fortaleza nos últimos anos da ditadura militar (1980 – 1985)
“This work aims to study the musical scene linked to MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) rooted in an artistic-bohemian-political effervescence around the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), in the city of Fortaleza (CE). During the process of political opening of the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship, young musicians-students adopt independent (or alternative) music practices and begin to integrate an embryonic local MPB circuit, in the margin of the recording industry and media. The analysis focuses on the trajectory of seven artists: Amaro Penna, Calé Alencar, Dilson Pinheiro, Eugênio Leandro, Jabuti Fonteles, Parahyba and Pingo de Fortaleza. Issues related to the involvement of music with student politics, the cultural and bohemian scene around the university and the strategies of professional performance of these musicians are highlighted”.
