Abílio Almeida

In the current research group (Passeio), Abílio Almeida mainly reflects on the social dynamics of the city of London. His work focuses on minorities and how they express their emotions and social relationships.

Abílio Almeida is a Portuguese social scientist with a PhD in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, where his thesis was awarded the Highest Distinction.

A researcher at CECS (Centre for Communication and Society Studies) since 2016, he serves as an Associate Editor of the scientific journal Nature Humanities and Social Sciences Communications (Springer-Nature, Q1).

He has published, among other books, A Cultural History of Laughter (Guerra & Paz, 2022; Routledge, 2024) and The Future of Television (Routledge, 2024). The latter is part of the prestigious Routledge Advances in Sociology series.

His main interests include society, emotions, laughter, communication, and the media.
