What colour is Brazil?

Still in the run-up of the presidential elections of September/October 2022 and with the World Cup in full swing, the colours on the streets of Brazil are constantly transmuting and taking on new meanings. In a divided country, what does it mean today to wave the national flag? What political messages are carried by the daily life of Brazilian cities? We begin this journey, which is as much an anthropological observation as an emotional subjectivity, in Fortaleza, Ceará. We continue through Porto Alegre, in Rio Grande do Sul, where the streets are taken over by pro-Bolsonaro protesters. And we end, finally, in Pernambuco, Recife, with two looks from researchers of LiArq – UFPE: Julieta Leite and Marília Frias.
