Architecture and sanatoriums in Portugal

A Arquitectura Branca: Os sanatórios para a tuberculose em Portugal, by José Avelãs Nunes, takes us on a tour of the architectural complexes that, all over the country, were built to combat infectious and contagious diseases, such as tuberculosis. The news is highlighted in the Público newspaper, and the author (with a doctorate from the University of Minho) won the “Lusitania” award from the Portuguese Academy of History, in 2022. Avelãs Nunes compares some of these sanatoriums to cities within the city.
