Call for papers | ECHO Journal

ECHO Interdisciplinary Journal of Communication: languages, cultures and society – is receiving proposals for articles to compose the thematic edition “The statute of imagery in the twenty-first century: screens, representations, disappearances”.

The present call for papers is aimed at proposals for contributions that address the matter of the image as conveyed by social networks or other channels, and via various devices, via a range of languages (from TV series to documentaries, from film to music videos, from news bulletins to social network stories, from memes to propics, etc.) with regard to themes such as:

  • Imagery and the digital reproducibility of the self;
  • Imagery, veridiction and fakes;
  • Augmented memory, privacy, recollections: the evolution of the photographic memory;
  • Contemporary iconoclasm;
  • Decolonial art and healing;
  • Hypotheses, opportunities and modalities for the reintroduction or recontextualisation of audio-visual products of worship;
  • Art and artivism;
  • Following in the footsteps of #meToo;
  • Advertising iconography and diversity marketing

 

Deadlines:

  • Abstract (300 – 500 words): 8 March 2021
  • Notification of acceptance: 6 April 2021
  • Article submission: 14 June 2021
  • Publication: 30 November 2021
  • Length of articles: max 7000 words
