Brief description
Art-Life, Art-Politics, Art-Community, Art-Activism, Artist-work-public, Collaborative Art, Dialogic Aesthetics, Popular Art, Classical Art, Digital Art, Media Arts, Art-Limit, Art (Non) Art, these are just some of the expressions that serve to illustrate, rather than the breaking of borders, the displacements that explore, beyond known possibilities, different layers of reality, but also the persistence of some semantic-referential fields that still denote distances, incommunicability or even remnants of aesthetic formalism, according to Roger Fry and Clive Bell, who unsuccessfully sought to gird and delimit the “aesthetic experience.”
In times of walls, material or symbolic, and of an intense revival of differences, it is urgent and necessary to observe and discuss the world of art in contemporary times. To understand what the artworks and the artists say and do, through the most varied techniques and forms, and in a permanent movement between the aesthetic disciplines, in their relationship with the public, the critics, the curators and the community is a way of thinking new languages and new perspectives on art and life. As Paul Craenen says, defining transdisciplinarity as a double movement of exploration and discovery, “the consequence of growing complexity and specialization is the loss of a broad vision”.
This preconference aims to question art when it integrates new possibilities and seeks to create new meanings. The presentations critically examine the invitations, questions, and doubts set up by “transart” projects as well as by the limits or boundaries that separate different forms of artistic expression, art from life, and artworks from the public.
The event will act as a platform for professionals in the field of arts, academics, and Ph.D. students, to discuss current developments in (trans) Art and the transgression and integration of borders in the artistic field. The participants, coordinated by the local organization, will debate and exchange experiences on particular issues and cases. (Trans)Arts, expanded art and new languages is an excellent networking opportunity.
The moderation will be carried out by Zara Pinto-Coelho.
