The Patuá language (old Macau Creole) survives via a theater group that rejects fairy tales
A recent article published on the Notícias ao Minuto website (in Portuguese) highlights the work of the theater group Dóçi Papiaçam di Macau (Sweet Tongue of Macau), which keeps the Patuá language (old Macau Creole) alive.
The group was founded in 1993 and was surprised, in 2024, by the fact that local authorities asked for the script of a play before its premiere, under the justification, according to Miguel de Senna Fernandes, president of the Associação dos Macaenses [Association of Macanese], that it was necessary for the theatrical play to have its age classification. This request raised doubts about a possible censorship.
